I personally believe LinkedIn as a standalone entity doesn't work very well. Why? Because we all spend too much time simply collecting contacts and not nearly enough time understanding how to actually refer business to our connections. Example: I have 500+ connections, but get very few direct referrals from such a large network. Are you having a similar experience?
However, if I know the specific type of referrals my best connections are looking for, and keep that information in a searchable database, I can easily make a referral anytime I get a request from a client, friend, business associate, or at a networking event. It makes LinkedIn a real referral tool.
